Tottenham Hotspur fans were buzzing to see Dilan Markanday in full training with the first-team yesterday.
Markanday steps up
Markanday appears to be really pushing for regular football at Tottenham now.
He made his debut in the UEFA Conference League under Nuno this season, and recently scooped the PL 2 Player of the Month award.
The attacking midfielder seems to have bulked up over the off-season, and he is starting to show real signs of promise in Spurs’ development squad.
Markanday has 10 goals in 10 PL 2 games this season and he has claimed two assists.
And his fine form seemingly has now caught the attention of Antonio Conte.
The youngster was spotted in Tottenham first-team training yesterday, alongside other bright talents like Jack Clarke and Ryan Sessegnon, much to the delight of Spurs fans.
Chances coming?
The difference between Markanday, when compared to Clarke and Sessegnon, is that Spurs haven’t paid any money for him.
He has developed through their academy and looks to be the next name to be pushing for a first-team spot.
The likes of Oliver Skipp and Dane Scarlett are the latest Tottenham academy graduates to start to break into the first-team.
It now seems like Markanday could follow suit in future months.
What will be interesting is to see whether Tottenham send the prospect out on loan in January.
His form at under-23 level will undoubtedly have attracted admiring glances, and a spell of regular first-team football will surely aid his development.
That being said, he may well be included in Tottenham’s match-day squad on Sunday against Leeds, as it appears he has been in senior training for most of this week.
