Earlier today, Liverpool gem Leighton Clarkson made his debut for Aberdeen, after signing for the Scottish side on a season-long loan deal.

Within just 45 minutes of the 20-year-old’s debut, he had already captured the hearts of supporters.

What’s the story?

Well, Clarkson put Aberdeen 3-0 up against St Mirren on the stroke of half-time with a powerful strike from long distance.

You can see the Blackburn-born playmaker’s stunning strike below.

What a way to introduce yourself – Clarkson will remember that one for a long time.

For those of you who pay close attention to Kirkby’s finest, however, his strike will not surprise you.

Jürgen Klopp has already described the youngster as a phenomenal talent, and claimed that supporters “cannot imagine” how good he really is after he made his Champions League debut.

The German said: “It was a really good game for a boy of his age group. You cannot imagine how much better he is than he showed on the night.”

Jordan Henderson has also sung the praises of Clarkson, after the midfielder impressed while training with the first-team at the AXA Training Centre.

Speaking about Rhys Williams and Clarkson, Liverpool’s club captain is quoted as saying: “I can tell you from seeing them in training both have taken many positives from their time away. Both look to have matured from being in a different environment and facing different types of challenges.”

Leighton Clarkson has a chance at Liverpool

Nobody can deny that Liverpool’s midfield options are fairly weak at the moment.

Thiago suffered what Klopp describes as a “bad hamstring” injury during the 2-2 draw with Fulham, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has also suffered a serious hamstring problem as well.

Therefore, if Clarkson continues to take Scotland by storm, Klopp could decide to include him in his options for the 2023/24 campaign.

He has already proven himself as a manager who trusts youngsters, such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Fabio Carvalho.

On the basis of his strike against St Mirren, Clarkson could be the next prospect to shine at Anfield.
