Newcastle United have new owners, and it seems as though it’s just a matter of time before they also have a new manager.

Indeed, it seems as though Steve Bruce is on borrowed time at St James’ Park, and after becoming one of the richest clubs in the world overnight, United are reportedly planning on being rather ambitious with their next appointment.

The likes of Antonio Conte and Frank Lampard have been linked, but over the past 24 hours, Unai Emery has emerged as a potential candidate.

Emery of course knows one of Newcastle’s players very well already, having managed Joe Willock during his time at Arsenal, and the midfielder has previously had good things to say about Emery.

What’s been said?

Willock had plenty of good things to say about Emery during his time at Arsenal, but he reserved special praise for the Spaniard’s tendency to give young players a chance.

“It’s very exciting because we have a manager who wants to play youngsters. You just have to take every opportunity, try to work hard and try to make a difference. It’s so exciting at the moment,” Willock said.

Exciting

Willock says it’s exciting that Emery wanted to give chances to the youngsters at Arsenal, and it could be the same at Newcastle.

Yes, the Magpies have money to spend and that often comes at the expense of homegrown talent, but let’s not forget that the Newcastle academy is brilliant.

The Longstaff brothers are still coming through while Elliot Anderson looks like he could be a future star at St James’ Park.

If Emery does come to Newcastle, don’t be shocked if he hands out chances to a few of the young players at the club.
