Harry Winks says it has been a ‘long’ and ‘very difficult’ time out injured, as the loaned-out Tottenham Hotspur star returned to the bench for Sampdoria against Serie A leaders Napoli on Sunday.

In the summer, the 26-year-old secured a season-long loan deal to Sampdoria, but the Spurs academy product hasn’t played a single minute because of injury.

Well, over the weekend, he would have been pretty pleased to be back amongst his teammates, and despite not coming off the bench against high-flying Napoli, the English midfielder was just pleased to be back, as he posted on Instagram.

HARRY WINKS LOOKING FOR A CHANGE OF FORTUNE

It wasn’t so long ago, that Winks was part of the England squad that secured a famous win against Spain in the UEFA Nations League.

Back then, he was at the top of his game and earning regular game time at his boyhood club.

But, during these past several years, the possession-based midfielder has declined on the pitch, hence why he headed for the exit door this summer.

Unfortunately for him, injuries have stopped him from trying to get back on the horse and galloping forward again.

And whilst Winks might no longer have a future at Hotspur Way, the 10-cap England international needs to find a new home elsewhere because he will feel that he is able to play for a team in Europe.

It will be interesting to see if Winks can get going at Sampdoria because it wouldn’t be a surprise if his future lies abroad, rather than for a team in the Premier League.

Prior to his move to Italy, there was talk of Frank Lampard’s Everton wanting to sign the midfielder, and whilst their problems are still visible, he’s not exactly the answer to their issues.
