The new Premier League season is just a couple of months away, and while that may seem like a long time, the new fixture list has been released, and Liverpool have an interesting opener to say the least.

Indeed, for the third season running Liverpool face newly-promoted opposition in their first game as they face Norwich City in a repeat of 2019/20’s curtain raiser.

It’s fair to say things have changed at Liverpool since then, and if reports are to be believed, more changes are afoot at Anfield as they continue to be linked with new signings.

With that in mind, we’re going to have a go at predicting the Reds’ starting XI for the opening game of the Premier League season.

We think that this side may be slightly different to the one we saw towards the end of last season.

As ever, Alisson starts in goal, while you can always bank on the ever-dependable pairing of Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back and Andy Robertson down the left.

However, the centre-back pairing is brand new as Virgil van Dijk makes his long-awaited return from injury, while new signing Ibrahima Konate starts for the first time.

There’s also a new signing in the midfield, Florian Neuhaus is reportedly edging closer to joining the Reds this summer, and we think he’ll slot in where Georginio Wijnaldum used to alongside Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.

The famous Liverpool front three of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino also start this one.
