Speaking after the USA’s World Cup exit, Pochettino failed to give any clues away.
“In the next weeks, we can start to talk if the federation wants to talk. Right now, it’s about resting a little bit, to think, have conversations with the federation to see what the decision is. I’m so happy. We’ve built a very good relationship; now is not a moment to talk about (my future).”
USMNT fans turn to BJ Callaghan as potential next USA manager
BJ Callaghan is the current head coach of MLS side Nashville SC, having recently signed a contract extension through 2029 after winning the 2025 U.S. Open Cup.
He has extensive ties to the USMNT, serving as a long-time assistant coach from 2019 to 2024 and winning the 2023 CONCACAF Nations League during a brief undefeated stint as interim manager.
Taking to X amid all the uncertainty surrounding Mauricio Pochettino‘s future, many USMNT fans are tipping Callaghan for the potential role.
One supporter pointed to the ‘youth’ factor with BJ Callaghan: “If he wants to go, I’m all aboard the youth movement under BJ Callaghan hype train.“
Another fan said there is no other option: “BJ Callaghan is just so obvious. There’s no need to overthink it. He gets his team playing an exciting style, he knows the player pool inside and out, and he’ll want to fight to make the US as good as he can going forward.“
“Thank you for everything Poch, the USMNT needs to hire Bj Callaghan,” another added.
This fan said: “Give BJ Callaghan the keys for the next two cycles minimum and get these players testing themselves in the toughest leagues more.“
