CEO Lee Hoos speaks out on QPR’s summer transfer window as Luke Freeman stays with the R’s

Queens Park Rangers failed to get any last minute deals over the line on transfer deadline day but CEO Lee Hoos feels the R’s have made ‘real progress’, and remains confident new faces will come in.

After speaking to QPR’s official website, the 56-year-old also explains how the loan market can work to The Hoops’ advantage and also discussed how keeping hold of their star players will benefit the club.

“A number of our players were the targets of bids but we turned them down as they did not meet our valuation,” Hoos said.

“It wasn’t too long ago we were paying players to leave the club. Now we are turning bids down – bids which are significantly higher than our purchase price for these players. That represents real progress.”

Luke Freeman was certainly a target for a number of Championship sides with Blackburn Rovers lodging a late bid on deadline day. QPR rebuffed all offers and manager Steve McClaren is reportedly casting an eye on Tomer Hemed.

The Brighton and Hove Albion striker would be warmly received in west London with Rangers desperate for an experienced option up top. However, anything QPR do now must be on loan and Hoos added how advantageous that market can be for their short-term future.

“The early closure of the transfer window this summer significantly changes the landscape and this can be used to our benefit. We are looking to bring loan players in. We can do this until the end of August,” Hoos continued.

“Clubs who were looking to sell their players on permanent deals will now be looking to loan them out, whereas prior to the window closing this was not an option they were considering.”

The possible capture of Hamed would be a massive boost to McClaren but defence is another area that needs addressing. It’s vital now that those involved at QPR analyse their options thoroughly and bring in players to improve the squad.

Failure to do so could see the R’s face a difficult season with a transfer embargo set for January 2019. It’s down to the current set-up and any potential loan signings now to prove the doubters wrong as Rangers prepare for the visit of Sheffield United on Saturday.
