Gary Neville has warned Arsenal that they could ‘upset one or two’ players if they decide to strengthen their starting XI during the January transfer window.
The Sky Sports pundit thinks that the issues Mikel Arteta will face when the transfer window re-opens, as Arsenal push for the Premier League title.
With domestic football halted for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Gunners are five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
During the previous winter transfer window, when Arsenal were pushing for Champions League football, they opted against refreshing their squad, which played a part in them missing out on a top-four spot.
They simply can’t make that same mistake again, as Neville thinks those around the current Premier League leaders won’t do any business and Arsenal might look at their midfield, as he told Sky Sports.
“You ask the question, would Arsenal strengthen in January?” said Neville. “What risk does that bring? Do you strengthen to boost the squad? Or do you strengthen to boost the actual first XI?
“If you strengthen to boost the XI, then do you upset one or two of the players that are already in there? That’s the sort of conundrum that will be going through the Arsenal board’s mind, at this moment in time, because I am not quite sure any of the other clubs will do it.
“I am not sure Manchester City will do business. I am not sure maybe any of the other clubs at the top will do business. There is a sense that Arsenal may do in midfield.”

Arteta doesn’t need anyone to come in and take a starting spot because the XI that are playing on a regular basis are doing a pretty good job.
It’s when injury hits, form dips and players start to struggle that you need that added depth behind the main guys.
The midfield is one concern if something happens to Thomas Partey, for instance, so bringing in another number six, as well as another forward option, might be what the club do.
