Speaking on Last Word on Spurs, Ben Jacobs has been giving an update on Leandro Trossard’s situation amid all sorts of speculation about his future.
The Belgian winger’s contract is up in the summer, and after a lightning start in the Premier League this season, there has been plenty of chatter about whether or not a January move could be on the cards.
According to Jacobs, a lot of this speculation is being fuelled by the player’s agent.
The journalist claims that the ‘unreal’ winger has been offered to a number of the Premier League’s top clubs, including Liverpool, but the Reds have dismissed this proposal.
Indeed, Jacobs says that not only did Liverpool turn down the chance to sign Trossard, they also began to get very irritated by his agent who was leaking a number of stories about the 28-year-old’s future.

Liverpool annoyed with Trossard
Jacobs shared what he knows about this situation.
“The first thing to say with Trossard is that he wants a move away. He has no specific preference. His agent has been working extremely hard to fuel interest. He went to Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United. Liverpool and Manchester United dismissed it and as I understand it they got irritated by how much was being leaked about interest in his client,” Jacobs said.
Don’t need him
Aside from the fact that Liverpool were getting annoyed by the leaks surrounding Trossard, the fact is that they don’t need him right now.
If there’s any area of Liverpool’s team that doesn’t need bolstering, it’s the attack – especially the left side.
Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota are all more than capable of playing that left-wing role to a high standard, so adding Trossard to the mix would just be overkill.
This is a transfer Liverpool didn’t need, and while Trossard is a quality player, they were right to turn him down.
