Newcastle United star Callum Wilson believes Miguel Almiron has found the ‘only thing’ he lacked in his game this season. He has praised his teammate for getting amongst the goals.
Almiron had entered the summer facing an uncertain future at St James’ Park under Eddie Howe. But the 28-year-old has been a revelation with six goals through 12 Premier League games. He had only scored nine through his previous 110 outings in the English top-flight.

The £21m former club-record arrival from Atlanta United in January 2019 had also never scored more than four in a season. While Almiron only boasted one goal over his previous 45 Premier League matches before opening his tally for the term against Manchester City.

Almiron now has five goals in his last five games after following up a brace against Fulham with strikes against Brentford, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. His goals have contributed directly to seven points, as well as hitting home to stretch the Magpies’ lead in two games.
Almiron has captivated Wilson with his goals at Newcastle this season
Wilson has now told Sky Sports News (29/10, 11:03) how Almiron has captivated him with the Paraguayan’s goals for Newcastle. The forward believes his 41-cap teammate is playing superbly this season and has found the only missing aspect in his game by hitting the net.
“Miggy’s resurgence, playing unbelievably this season,” Wilson said. “Sometimes you can be overly reliant on me and Maxi [Allan Saint-Maximin] to score and Alex coming in when I was out, it was expected of him to score goals. But then Miggy stepped up to the plate.

“That’s what you need, you need goals from different positions. He’s an unbelievable character, so happy around the place, always smiling. You could probably say the only thing lacking [in his game] was a little bit of an end product at times.
“He’d get into unbelievable positions and then shoot when he could pass, or pass when he should shoot. But now he’s got that confidence, so he’s taking a lot more shots on.”

Almiron faced an uncertain future at St James’ Park this summer
Almiron’s goal spree might not have occurred this summer as he faced an uncertain future at Newcastle. The Mirror reported in April that Howe was prepared to sell the Paraguayan for just £10m to boost his budget. He also attracted interest from Premier League teams.
Reports by The Sun in May claimed Everton and Fulham were considering bids for Almiron. Yet the £42k-a-week ace ultimately stayed on Tyneside – to Howe’s delight, no doubt. No Newcastle player has more goals than Almiron so far this season, ahead of Wilson on four.
