The Mirror claim Newcastle are looking to offload Miguel Almiron and will entertain offers of just £10million. Once their club-record signing, the Toon spent £21million (Sky) to sign the Paraguay star back in January 2019.
Almiron, 28, has started just five Premier League games under Howe – from a possible 19. In his 24 league and cup appearances from the start, or from the bench this season, Almiron has failed score or create a single goal.
The playmaker has shown the odd glimpse, his best form coming under Steve Bruce when given license to roam from his position. But he has not lived up to the price Newcastle paid to sign him under Rafa Benitez.
The latest report states that Newcastle are open to offers for the £10million-rated Almiron. Such a figure would see Newcastle lose £11million of investment on their previous club-record signing – which is now Joelinton.
Almiron for £10m: Newcastle might gain Premier League interest
There is no doubt, that Almiron is a player of Premier League quality. He has just not suited Newcastle from start to finish, even under Eddie Howe. He needs a club that can suit his style – fast-paced, playing with freedom.
Leeds could be an option in the coming months, but the Whites are expected to go for players much younger than 28-year-old Almiron. Much more likely, is a move abroad and potentially even back to the MLS.
