Allan Saint-Maximin has taken showing generosity to supporters to a new level after Newcastle United’s game against Brentford at the weekend.

What’s the story?

We have became accustomed to seeing players give their shirts away now, with fans often holding up signage asking for memorabilia.

But there may have been a footballing first after Newcastle’s game against Brentford at the weekend.

Saint-Maximin gifted his watch to one lucky supporter, who had stayed around to wish him well after the game.

The Tag Heuer time piece is worth thousands, but Saint-Maximin gave it away – all boxed up – to a very appreciative Magpies fan.

And Newcastle followers were blown away by the gesture.

Cult hero status

Saint-Maximin had actually had a strong showing on the pitch at the weekend as well as off it.

He scored the equaliser in Eddie Howe’s first game in charge, as he crashed home a cross on the volley.

The Newcastle wide-man is already a real fans’ favourite at St. James’ Park and there may well be time for him to achieve hero status if he sticks with the club.

With Newcastle under new ownership, Saint-Maximin will surely be a player who Howe builds his team around in the years ahead.

His talent ranks him as one of the most dangerous attackers in the Premier League and with greater quality around him, there is real excitement about what he could produce under Howe.
