Aston Villa are inching towards another sale this summer as their busy window continues.

The door at Villa Park has been busy this summer. The Villans have added eight new signings to Unai Emery‘s squad and offloaded seven players on permanent deals.

Their most expensive signing of the summer so far is the £50million paid for Amadou Onana – but the Belgian has made a flying start at the club after scoring just five minutes into his Premier League debut against West Ham.

Hammers-linked Jhon Duran netted a second-half winner to secure an important three points in the capital.

Aston Villa can now begin to prepare for their first home match of the season against title-chasing Arsenal next Saturday.

But by the time that game comes around, one Villa player will have likely left the club.

Unai Emery on Aston Villa transfer business

Villa’s £37.5million deal for Ian Maatsen has created an abundance of depth at left-back.

Lucas Digne started the league opener against West Ham before Maatsen came off the bench to replace him in the second-half.

Alex Moreno, who was hailed as “brilliant” by Ian Wright last season, is also on Villa’s books but was left out of Emery’s matchday squad.

The Spaniard joined Villa in a £13million move in January 2023 and he played a key role in their Champions League qualification last season.

After the West Ham win, Emery confirmed that Moreno is now “close” to leaving the club.

“We signed Ian Maatsen and were speaking with some different players in this position now we have difficulties to manage with three specific left full-backs,” Emery said.

“We were thinking to be strong in this position and Alex Moreno is a player who he is now close to leaving.”

Nottingham Forest ready to swoop

Emery has confirmed that Villa have given the green light for Moreno to leave this season with the 31-year-old clearly not part of the first-team plans.

According to The Athletic, Moreno has attracted interest from the Premier League with Nottingham Forest weighing up a loan move for the Spanish full-back.

The report adds that there is also interest in Moreno from Besiktas, Galatasaray, Nice, Real Betis and Villarreal.

Forest are considering a season-long loan for Moreno with Villa eager to get him off their books.
