It’s been an extremely quiet January for Liverpool, at least from a transfer window perspective.

The noise this month has, of course, centred around Jurgen Klopp’s announcement that he will leave Anfield as manager in the summer.

The gut-wrenching news was a sore one to take for Reds fans across the world and the reaction to it all has completely overshadowed Liverpool’s potential transfer activity as we make our way into deadline day.

Don’t expect too much to happen concerning Liverpool across the next few hours, despite the fact the club are not under threat from FFP or profit and sustainability regulations.

But it’s not impossible that Liverpool enter the market one last time today and aim to beef up their midfield department, for example.

Here, HITC Football take a look at two potential Liverpool incomings that could still be followed up before the close of play this evening.

Andre Trindade

Brazilian midfielder Andre Trindade has been heavily linked with a Premier League switch to Liverpool ever since the summer of 2023.

And the Reds went as far as submitting a transfer offer of £26m to Fluminense for the player. However, that was turned down due to the importance of Andre in Fluminense’s fight to secure Copa Libertadores glory in the November.

They would go on to do that, with Andre one of just four Fluminense starters in the final to play the entire match. He is a key player for the Brasileiro Serie A giants, playing 60 games in total across 2023.

But Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt admits Andre could still yet leave the club in January, saying: “If the sale is good for the club and the player, it will happen.”

Fulham could scupper any Liverpool plans to secure Andre this month, with HITC Football reporting that personal terms between Andre and the Cottagers have been agreed. Despite this, no formal offer between clubs have been negotiated as of now.

There has been no indication of late that Liverpool will re-enter the market for Andre and make a second offer in the space of six months.

But now that Andre has fulfilled his dream of winning the Copa Libertadores, could he now be tempted to take the next leap in his career by pushing for a move to Merseyside?

Ederson

Andre Trindade mentioned above is a No6 midfielder and it’s the type of player Liverpool could do with adding to their squad.

Atalanta anchorman and Brazilian 24-year-old Ederson fits the same profile and has been mooted with a switch north to Liverpool this month.

Transfermarkt rate him at £23m and according to Goal in Brazil, the Reds made an approach to Atalanta with a view to signing Ederson permanently.

The energetic Ederson has been described by his former manager Tiago Nunes [Sky Sports] as a box-to-box midfielder who has excellent defensive qualities.

He’s also partial to a goal contribution or two. In fact, Ederson has seven of those in 28 games for the Serie A side Atalanta this season, who are chasing Champions League qualification.

For that reason alone, a deal could very difficult to achieve for Liverpool in January but perhaps a bid that would be difficult for Atalanta not to consider could be tabled across the next few hours?
