Derby County defender Alex Pearce’s future may now be in further doubt, as reports claim Millwall are set to bolster their defensive ranks with the pre-summer signing of Eastbourne Borough defender Harry Ransom.

A report by HITC claims Millwall have agreed a deal to sign the non-league sensation, fending off interest from Premier League and Championship clubs with several sending scouts to see him in action this term.

Millwall boss Neil Harris later told the South London Press that, while a deal has not been confirmed, he is very much looking to add the defender to his ranks, adding: “I’ve shown in the past that signing players from non-league is a big part in my belief that players, particularly young ones, get given an opportunity.”

Ransom joining Millwall this summer may help the Lions’ cause next season in their bid to improve their leaky defence, but for Alex Pearce it spells potentially bad news with his future having a big question mark over it.

The Republic of Ireland defender joined the Lions in January on loan until the end of the season, yet he has so far made just two Championship appearances for the South London club.

Pearce is out of contract at Derby and, having failed to make a single appearance under manager Frank Lampard, it seems his Rams career already looks over as the club embark on a new transfer policy.

The Rams have gone about trying to lower the average age of the squad while moving on the high-earners. Pearce, 30, was signed during Derby’s big spending spree back in 2015, making him a prime candidate to be moved on.

With Jake Cooper and Shaun Hutchinson regularly starting for Millwall this term and Murray Wallace also providing central cover, Pearce’s services may no longer be needed when his loan spell comes to an end.
