Ipswich Town’s Luke Chambers is a popular figure among his teammates.
Ipswich Town’s summer signing Gwion Edwards has spoken highly of new teammate Luke Chambers and feels he is one of the most influential players he has played alongside in his career, the Eastern Daily Times reports.
“Chambo’s a great lad. He’s potentially the best captain I’ve ever had to be honest. Every day he comes in, he’s positive and gets the lads going. If he sees someone who is a bit down or frustrated he is always there to pick them up,” Edwards explained.
Chambers has been at Ipswich for seven seasons now following his move from Nottingham Forest, and he has gone on to make over 250 Championship appearances for the club.
At 33 his ability is waning, and following the 2-0 home defeat to Middlesbrough last week several Ipswich fans took to Twitter to call for the player to be dropped, citing him a ‘liability’ and ‘awful’.
But it seems in his captain’s role he is setting a good example to his teammates, helping out the younger players and maintaining morale despite a poor start to the campaign.
The Tractor Boys went 11 games without a Championship win before Saturday’s 3-2 victory at Swansea City, leaving Paul Hurst’s side in the bottom three and with a potential relegation scrap ahead.
Goals have been hard to come by for Ipswich as they are among the lowest scorers in the league with just 11 strikes in 12 matches, while defensively they have not been much better, with 18 goals conceded.
Despite their limited ability and transitional period under their new manager, Ipswich are battling on and in Chambers they have a player with vast Championship experience and a key role to play this term.
