Reading’s Marc McNulty has been linked with Hibernian.

Hibernian manager Paul Heckingbottom says his side’s transfer business is now done which all-but rules out signing Reading striker Marc McNulty barring extreme circumstances, the Daily Record reports.

“That’s it, we’re done. Unless circumstances change or something unforeseen happens which we’ve got to react to, that’ll be it. We’ve done really well this summer. We’ve worked the budget and really pushed it and tried to get the best possible players we can in those positions. I think we’ve done that,” Heckingbottom explained.

McNulty joined Reading 12 months ago in a £1.2 million deal from Coventry City.

The striker, however, struggled to settle at the Madejski Stadium and he ended up moving to Hibs during the January transfer window, going on to score seven Scottish Premiership goals in 15 games.

The Scottish Sun posted last month how McNulty was determined to push through a permanent move to Hibs this summer. However, Heckingbottom’s comments now suggests that is unlikely to happen.

Reading reportedly made McNulty available for transfer last January, and it seems they are again open to selling him now but Heckingbottom recently told the BBC how the Royals wanted to recoup the fee they paid for him.

McNulty still has three years left on his Reading contract. Hibs may have had to spend the bulk of their budget to bring him in, and instead they have chosen to strengthen other areas of the squad.

The Scottish club have made seven new signings this summer, with Josh Vela the latest to arrive at Easter Road.
