Trevor Sinclair has told talkSPORT that he is ‘shocked’ that Manchester City are stumping up £100 million to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

The former winger also blasted his former club and claimed that he doesn’t think it looks good that they are paying so much money for his talents, especially on the back end of a worldwide pandemic, as he added on talkSPORT.

In what will be a British-record transfer fee, Man City are set to sign the boyhood Villa fan within the next 48 hours, according to Sky Sports.

Whilst another Pep Guardiola target, Harry Kane, opts against turning up for Tottenham training, Grealish was present at Villa’s pre-season training camp during these past few days.

But Sinclair was critical of his former club splashing big money when their previous ‘principles’ have always been to purchase talent for ‘lesser’ money.

“I have to say that I am shocked Manchester City have gone to these kinds of prices to bring in players,” said Sinclair. “They have never done it before.

“In the past, their philosophy or principles were to try and get players for lesser money than what we are looking at now.

“My opinion, with regard to the amount they have paid for this transfer, I just don’t think it’s good for the game. I don’t think it looks good after coming out of a pandemic from the last 18 months and so many people are struggling.”

Well, Man City may not have paid the £80+million for players before, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t splashed the cash in a crazy fashion since the club’s takeover from the Abu Dhabi-based group over ten years ago.

But now they have decided to break the record and they have done so for one of the most gifted players in the Premier League today.

In terms of creative stats, Kevin de Bruyne from assists to key passes to chances created usually stands on his own.

But one man who has been able to match the Belgian maverick in that department during these past few seasons has been Grealish.

And after winning the Premier League title last season, Man City may as well start the parade for next season’s title in August.
