Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after Phil Foden beat Trent Alexander-Arnold to the Premier League Young Player of the Year award.
What’s the story?
Well, this will come as disappointing news to the £160,000-a-week Liverpool man, who deserved to win the award, in our view.
Lineker seemingly acknowledged Alexander-Arnold’s presence on the list of nominees without naming him, as he claimed the competition was “tough”.
However, the BBC Match of the Day host did also praise Foden, as he called the Manchester City gem a “wonderfully talented” footballer.
You can see what Lineker tweeted in full below.
Alexander-Arnold may not be that bothered, in truth, as he only recently won the FA Cup for the first time in his already glittering career.
The 23-year-old now has the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup under his belt, which is astonishing for a player so young.
Liverpool & Trent Alexander-Arnold deserved the award

As aforesaid, Alexander-Arnold deserved to be named as the Premier League Young Player of the Year over Foden – in our view, at least.
The Manchester City wonderkid – who Lineker believes would start for Liverpool – has scored nine goals in 27 Premier League appearances this season, while also providing five assists.
That is a respectable tally, although it has nothing on what Alexander-Arnold has achieved from right-back, both in an attacking sense as well as defending.

The Liverpool No.66 – who Foden enjoys watching – has helped the Reds keep 21 clean sheets in the Premier League this season – no side has kept more.
Alexander-Arnold has also been incredibly effective going forward, scoring two goals while assisting a further 12 in the Premier League this season.
We can understand why Foden won, as he’s a fine player, although Alexander-Arnold has every right to feel disappointed about the outcome.
