Ange Postecoglou is ‘aware’ of speculation linking him with Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur but says his only focus is on enjoying a positive end to another outstanding Celtic season.

With Arne Slot doing like Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann – the Feyenoord boss the latest manager to turn his nose up at a job which is quickly starting to look like a bit of a poison chalice – Spurs’ drawn-out pursuit is threatening to become a rather pitiful parody of 2021.

The question is, who will be Daniel Levy’s next Nuno Espirito Santo?

Ange Postecoglou, like Nuno two years ago, would potentially arrive at Tottenham with his reputation already dented in the eyes of the Spurs support, simply because he was obviously far from the club’s first choice target.

The Independent say that Postecoglou, who actually ticks more boxes than most when it comes to matching up with Spurs’ so-called ‘DNA’, is now emerging as the club’s newest managerial frontrunner.

Will Ange Postecoglou leave Celtic for Tottenham Hotspur

“I’m aware of it,” Postecoglou told the Daily Record at his Friday press conference. “Because everyone keeps asking me about it!

“But I’ve been pretty clear that it’s just not the way I think and work. My priority right now is just looking at trying to make sure we have a special day tomorrow and we have a big cup final coming up in a weeks’ time.”

Champions for the second year in a row under Postecoglou; Celtic will get their hands on a very familiar piece of silverware yet again when Aberdeen travel to Parkhead on Saturday lunchtime. And with a Scottish Cup final against Inverness Caledonian Thistle to come, the former Australia and Yokohama F Marinos boss is keeping the rumours at arms’ length as he focuses on the task at hand.

20 trophies already

“My ambitions right now are to enjoy tomorrow. Have a good game and then try and win a cup final and make it a special season,” Postecoglou adds, via Sky Sports.

“It’s not every year you get the opportunity to win a treble and if anyone thinks I’m thinking anything other than that they don’t know me.”

“The one thing I do know for certain is that if you’re not concentrating on the task in hand, your destiny gets taken out of your hands.

“I’ve worked really hard in my career not to be in that position and the way I’ve done that is to make sure, beyond what happens this week, I’m not going to think about anything else.

“I think what the Celtic fans want is their manager to be concentrating on what’s important for them now.

“I’d hate to think our supporters want me thinking about anything else other than having a great game tomorrow, having a great day and then winning a cup final to make it a treble, which will make it a special year.”

Postecoglou, should his Celtic side beat Inverness at Hampden Park, will take his personal tally of trophies to an incredible 21.
