Tim Sherwood has claimed Tottenham fans ‘won’t admit it’, but they would rather watch Arsenal than their own style of play under Antonio Conte, as he told Premier League Productions (15/10/22 at 7:55 pm).
This comes after Spurs moved within one-point of the Premier League leaders on Saturday when they beat Everton 2-0 on home soil.
For the first time in a very long time, north London is bouncing at both ends, with both teams pretty confident of producing their best season in a long while.
Whilst it remains to be seen how the season pans out, it’s fair to say, in terms of style of play, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are far easier on the eye to watch than Spurs.
Their fast-paced possession-based football has impressed many neutrals this season, whilst Conte’s team are more rugged, aggressive and efficient.
After Spurs beat Everton yesterday, ex-Spurs boss Sherwood admitted that Arsenal’s brand of football is the best, but there ‘isn’t a right or wrong’ answer to this all.
“As well as we are doing, Arsenal are doing a little bit better,” said Sherwood. “The Tottenham fans, whilst they won’t admit it, would rather be watching the brand of football Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal players are delivering.
“But if Antonio Conte can install this consistency and continue to get the results, as he has done everywhere he has been, then I am sure they will be happy with the end product, which hopefully will be us being above Arsenal.
“But at the moment, I’m not holding my breath because Arsenal are going really well. There are different ways of playing football. There isn’t a right or wrong.”
NEXT BEST AFTER MAN CITY?
Even though it’s Arsenal sitting top of the tree, and even though Man City can be overtaken by the two during these coming weeks, Pep Guardiola’s side are still the best in the land.
That’s proven by what they have produced in recent seasons – winning four out of the last five titles – and the free-scoring start they have made to the current campaign.
But, with Liverpool slipping up, it seems as though a door is opening for someone to start breathing down Man City’s necks instead of those from Merseyside.
Whilst there is still a long way to go, the north London duo would back themselves to be that team.
