Football London reporter Alasdair Gold claims Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid Alfie Devine will go on loan in the January transfer window – and a move to Championship side Sunderland would be perfect for the midfielder.
The reports emerged soon after Devine, 18, had scored a brace for Tottenham’s Under-19 side against Eintracht Frankfurt. But it was not enough to secure three UEFA Youth League points, as Frankfurt came back to win 3-2.
Devine has made his senior debut since swapping Wigan for Tottenham – an FA Cup clash against Non-League Marine. He even scored in a match where Gareth Bale and Lucas Moura also featured. But that is it, as things stand.
Instead, he has become a regular in the Under-21 side. Despite only being 18, he has played 34 times for the second string, scoring 11 goals from midfield. But now, it appears he will go on loan in the January window – as per Gold.

Tottenham wonderkid Devine will go on loan: Sunderland perfect
There a number of reasons why a move to Sunderland would suit Devine. Firstly, he would fit in like a glove due to his ex-Spurs teammates being at the Stadium of Light. Most notably, Jack Clarke, who is in sensational form this season.
Left-back Dennis Cirkin, too. Secondly, Sunderland have scored 17 goals in 13 Championship games. A decent amount, but if they are to target the top 10 – and, a potential play-off push – they need more. Devine would boost creativity.
Creativity from midfield, and give the Black Cats another goal threat. It is a move that would benefit Sunderland as they look for a return to the Premier League. It would benefit Devine, playing with some recognisable faces for a big side.
And finally, it helps Tottenham – giving Devine plenty of games in a side that have to cope with the pressure of a big following. So, a move to Sunderland suits all parties involved, more so than most Championship clubs, for Devine.
