Tottenham Hotspur and Lyon have agreed on the terms to send Giovani Lo Celso to Ligue 1 in a last-ditch loan transfer, with the two clubs now waiting for the midfielder’s green light.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who report Lyon moved quickly to thrash out a late deal with Spurs for the Argentine. Peter Bosz’s struggling Groupama Stadium side were keen to sign Lo Celso after marking him their top target to replace Newcastle-bound Bruno Guimaraes.

Bosz admires what Lo Celso could bring to the Gones engine room over the second half of the season. The Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes outfit are in desperate need of a new spark, having only won eight of their 21 league matches. Lyon sit just 11th in the French top-flight table.

Tottenham happily negotiated Lo Celso’s loan transfer to Lyon as the 25-year-old has rarely featured in north London this term. The 36-cap international has only made nine of his 19 outings in the Premier League for 233-minutes. Only three Spurs players have featured less.

Lo Celso has also only played for 42 top-flight minutes since Antonio Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in charge. He will now have the final say over a potential return to Ligue 1, three-and-a-half-years after leaving Paris Saint-Germain for Real Betis in an initial loan.

Tottenham and Lyon agree Lo Celso loan transfer

Tottenham and Lyon have agreed the terms for Lo Celso to join Bosz’s side in a half-season loan transfer. Les Gones will cover 50% of his £70k-a-week salary whilst at the Groupama Stadium. The Ligue 1 side will also not obtain an option or obligation to buy the midfielder.

Lo Celso must now decide if he wishes to spend the second half of the campaign in France. The £27m midfielder – who Jose Mourinho considered ‘exciting’ while in charge – is under contract at Spurs until the summer of 2025. So, has reason to go out and impress Conte.
