Tottenham wanted Weston McKennie over the summer and the Juventus man was jeered by his own fans on Wednesday night.

Juventus endured another difficult night on Wednesday.

Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Salernitana was far from ideal and the pressure is increasing on manager Max Allegri.

Juve hosted Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday and actually took an early lead through Arkadiusz Milik.

That’s as good as it got though as Joao Mario and David Neres turned the game on its head to give Benfica a 2-1 win in Turin.

Tottenham wanted Weston McKennie

Juventus now have no points from two Champions League games whilst Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica have won two from two to start their campaign.

Add in just two wins from six Serie A games and Allegri finds himself under immense pressure.

The Juventus fanbase are used to success and this start to the season will not be good enough in their eyes.

They have been turning on their own players though, with midfielder McKennie allegedly facing some jeers on Wednesday night.

Tuttomercatoweb note that Juventus fans were whistling McKennie after turning in a disappointing display.

TMW gave McKennie a 4.5 rating out of 10, with only Dusan Vlahovic lower than the American.

They suggest that whilst McKennie is expected to knit the team together and serve as a link between defence and attack, he did none of that on Wednesday.

This comes after Tottenham Hotspur showed a real interest in signing McKennie over the summer.

The Daily Mail reported in July that Tottenham were really hoping to sign McKennie but an injury to Paul Pogba meant Juve couldn’t let him go.

Fabio Paratici is a big fan of McKennie; he signed the American for Juventus and allegedly had him ahead of Rodrigo Bentancur – who did join Tottenham from Juve – on his January transfer wish list.

McKennie is certainly a name to keep an eye on if Tottenham move for another midfielder down the line.

After Wednesday’s whistles and jeering, maybe McKennie would jump at the chance to move on and have a fresh start in London.
