Cornet, 25, was one of the rare shining lights at Burnley during the 2021-22 season. While the Clarets were relegated on the final day, Cornet finished the campaign with nine goals in 26 Premier League appearances.
Now relegated, the 25-time Ivory Coast ace has a release clause worth a bargain £15million according to The Mirror. The report says Tottenham want to bring the attacker to London, in the coming weeks and months.
A player that idolises Chelsea icon Drogba, as per the Mail: “I watched Chelsea a lot because of my idol – Drogba. He has done a lot for me. [He told me] I have to work hard in the week, recover, play hard again, every week.”
Tottenham want Cornet: Player idolises Chelsea legend Drogba
Cornet is a top, top player. He has shown this season that he has outlived Burnley – even before the club were relegated. Now there is a bargain release clause in his contract, Premier League clubs are certain to be keen.
Tottenham will need depth as they prepare to embark on a Champions League campaign next season. Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura currently provide cover for the front three, but Bergwijn could be sold.
Spurs need another attacker and while Cornet does idolise Drogba, he would be a very astute signing given he would only cost £15million. It gives Spurs an option at left wing-back, as well as cover for Son Heung-min.
