Tottenham Hotspur want Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and he certainly has one huge fan in former England defender Rio Ferdinand.

Tottenham have landed one centre back this summer by signing Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona.

Lenglet can offer an option on the left side of Tottenham’s back three or in the centre, but he doesn’t aid the homegrown issues at Spurs.

Japhet Tanganga’s potential exit would only exacerbate that problem and Tottenham may need to sign another defensive utility man to replace him.

Few rumours have emerged on that front, but a shock link has emerged with Tottenham keen on Chelsea defender Chalobah.

Tottenham Hotspur want Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah

The London Evening Standard have reported this weekend that Tottenham are keen on signing Chalobah.

Whether Chelsea would sell to Tottenham remains to be seen, given the fierce rivalry between the two clubs.

Chalobah, 23, was a surprise feature of Chelsea’s first team last season as he started 17 Premier League games, scoring three times.

The Sierra Leone-born star offers real versatility thanks to his ability to play at centre back or in holding midfield.

That could appeal to Tottenham, though convincing Chalobah to leave Chelsea – where he has played for 15 years – may be a tough ask.

Chalobah seems to have emerged rapidly over the last year to 18 months and he earned major praise last season.

Chalobah certainly earned himself a fan in Rio Ferdinand, who raved about the Chelsea talent a year ago.

Ferdinand admitted that he was ‘massively impressed’ with Chalobah in the UEFA Super Cup against Villarreal, claiming his defending was ‘unbelievable’.

Ferdinand certainly knows a thing or two about defending and that he was so impressed by Chalobah speaks volumes.

Chalobah certainly showed plenty of those moments last season but still isn’t in the Chelsea starting lineup – even after the exits of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Chelsea may prefer to loan Chalobah out, but if Tottenham come forward with a decent cash offer, it will be fascinating to see whether the Blues would sell.
