According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign Trevor Chalobah from Chelsea.
What’s the story?
Well, the 23-year-old was one of Chelsea’s standout performers last season after breaking into the first-team, but the England Under-21 international is no longer valued by Thomas Tuchel, it seems.
Chalobah has been left on the bench in both of Chelsea’s Premier League games so far this season, which speaks volumes when you consider the fact Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have both departed.
Nevertheless, Tottenham could now benefit.
The Evening Standard believe Inter Milan and Roma are also interested in Chalobah, who is concerned about his future at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea enter talks to sign Wesley Fofana from Leicester.
Despite those £80m talks with the Foxes, Chelsea are reluctant to sell their No.14 – who Ian Wright once compared to Liverpool colossus Virgil van Dijk – and would prefer to loan him out, according to ESPN.
ESPN also revealed that Aston Villa are interested in Chalobah, as Steven Gerrard looks to find cover for Diego Carlos following the Brazilian’s serious injury.
Aston Villa surely hold advantage over Tottenham
In our view, the Villans are in a better position that Spurs in the race to sign Chalobah.
We doubt Chelsea will decide to strengthen one of their rivals for the top four, especially after last Sunday’s heated affair between the two Londoners at Stamford Bridge.

With all due respect, Aston Villa are unlikely to be competing with Chelsea this season, so it would make more sense for Tuchel to send Chalobah to the Midlands.
Having said that, anything can happen before the August 31st deadline, and if Chalobah pushes to join Tottenham in favour of staying in London, it will be interesting to see how the Blues respond.
