According to a report by Italian outlet La Repubblica, as relayed by Calcio Napoli 24, Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Napoli goalkeeper, Alex Meret.

Antonio Conte’s side are most certainly in need of a long-term successor to Hugo Lloris, who has been in woeful form this season.

And it seems Tottenham believe Alex Meret would be the perfect candidate to replace their club captain for years to come.

Since returning from international duty after the World Cup, Lloris has been especially culpable in goal.

High-profile errors against the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City have not helped the World Cup winner redeem his plummeting reputation in any way, shape or form.

However, being error-prone is not a newfound downturn in the 36-year-old’s game, as he has been guilty of having a host of clangers over the past couple of years.

Surprisingly, Spurs have seemingly never gone all out to search for a successor for the declining veteran.

But it seems Alex Meret, who must be loving life in Napoli as his side are currently topping Serie A has caught the eye of those within the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But how likely is the transfer for the £22.9 million (Football Transfers) man, who was dubbed as the ‘new Buffon’ by Antonio Di Natale via Be Soccer.

How possible is Alex Meret to Tottenham?

Seemingly, not very.

La Repubblica have reported, as relayed by Calcio Napoli 24 that Alex Meret, who is ‘desired’ by those at Tottenham has already decided his future.

The 25-year-old intends to win Serie A with Napoli, after which he plans to sign a long-term contract extension until 2028 at the end of the season.

Unfortunately, that is a big blow for Tottenham Hotspur, as Alex Meret would have been one of the finest replacements for Hugo Lloris, had a move been on the cards.
