Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez is now pushing the north London club to grant his transfer away. He is determined to leave the Premier League this summer.

That is according to the Daily Mail, which reports that Sanchez is urging Tottenham to grant him a move away. The 27-year-old endured a frustrating campaign in 2022/23, which saw a number of Spurs fans boo the Colombian. He also struggled to retain a regular starting role.

Sanchez only featured in 24 of Tottenham’s fixtures across all competitions and only started in 12 of his appearances. He was not out of the squad under Antonio Conte, Cristian Stellini or Ryan Mason through injury, either. The centre-half made all 50 of their matchday teams.

Sanchez is pushing Tottenham for a transfer away

Given his contract is only due to run until June 2024, Sanchez feels now is the time to leave Tottenham. The Premier League team handed the 6 ft 1 enforcer a new, six-year deal worth £65k-a-week in May 2018. He had signed for Spurs from AFC Ajax in August 2017 for £42m.

Tottenham broke the bank to bring Sanchez to England in a then-club record transfer under Mauricio Pochettino. He would repay their investment as a mainstay of the Argentine’s side in 2017/18. But the centre-half did not manage to build on the early promise he presented.

Spurs were ready to sanction a deal in January

It is unlikely that Tottenham will stand in Sanchez’s way of securing a transfer out of north London this summer. Ange Postecoglou may have to go a long way to convince the 53-cap international that he envisages him having a substantial role in the Australian’s first season.

Tottenham were also prepared to sell Sanchez in the transfer window in January, according to Alasdair Gold. Spurs were open to granting him any move away to avoid the Colombian’s contract entering its final 12 months. But now that it has, his market value may be minimal.
