Fiorentina star Nicolas Gonzalez is urging the Serie A side to permit his transfer to Leicester City. Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are also targeting a switch for the forward.
That is according to Calciomercato, which reports the Foxes have made a €34m (£30m) bid for the 24-year-old. Brendan Rodgers is serious about his wish to sign Gonzalez in the mid-season market. I Viola are also now giving real thought to accepting the offer on the table.
But Fiorentina have yet given Gonzalez the green light to go to the King Power Stadium as they would need to reinvest any funds raised. So, the 21-cap Argentina star is now pushing Stadio Artemio Franchi chiefs to sanction his switch. He is desperate to secure the transfer.
Gonzalez’s representatives also remain in constant communication with Leicester. The two parties are negotiating the terms of his transfer with optimism and trust that a deal will go through. They also take confidence in Fiorentina identifying three potential replacements.
I Viola appreciate what Jeremie Boga, Josip Brekalo and Abdelhamid Sabiri could provide if Gonzalez were to leave. Fiorentina have followed Boga and Sabiri for months and Atalanta and Sampdoria are ready to sell. The Serie A side would rather sign Brekalo in the summer.
Gonzalez’s transfer from Fiorentina also interests Newcastle and Tottenham
Leicester are confident that Gonzalez wants a transfer from Fiorentina to the King Power, too, per 90min. It also cites the Foxes’ £30m bid for a player Rodgers believes can help to kickstart their season. They sit 13th in the Premier League after five wins over 18 games.
Rodgers’ squad have also scored just 26 goals so far this season in the top-flight. Gonzalez has given Fiorentina five goals in 12 appearances in all competitions, despite only starting in four games. He has two goals in Serie A and three goals in the Europa Conference League.
Gonzalez’s efforts have also attracted interest from Newcastle and Tottenham, as well as Leicester, in his transfer from Fiorentina. 90min adds the Toon and Spurs have expressed their interest in a deal to I Viola in recent months. But neither team has yet made an offer.
Newcastle are interested in Gonzalez’s transfer from Fiorentina to strengthen their bid for European qualification. The Magpies sit third in the table after 18 games, while Tottenham are only in fifth. Spurs also sit 11 points off leaders Arsenal before the north London derby.
