Transfer expert Pete O’Rourke has told Give Me Sport that Sporting Lisbon star Marcus Edwards would jump at the chance to return to Tottenham Hotspur this month – amid reports that Spurs are keen on re-signing the playmaker.
London-born Edwards, 24, joined Sporting from Vitoria – the club he joined from Spurs – in January. Since then, he has clocked up 41 outings in league and cup – having a hand in 24 goals. He even scored against Tottenham this season.
Portuguese outlet Record report that Spurs can sign both Edwards and Pedro Porro in a combined £66m deal. With Porro’s release clause worth around £40m, Edwards is cheap at £26m. But there is a reason why Spurs can him cheap.
That is because, Spurs boast a 50% sell-on clause in his Sporting contract – waived by Vitoria to Sporting in his move in January. Edwards would give Spurs a much-needed homegrown player to ease registration rules, and an attacking star.
So, whether Spurs move remains up in the air. Their priority is certainly a right wing-back to improve on their current options. O’Rourke has now claimed on GMS that Edwards would jump at the chance to return to Spurs this month.

“Edwards would give serious consideration to a move back to Tottenham. The whole point of him leaving England was to get first-team football and to prove himself with the ultimate goal of coming back to England,” O’Rourke said.

Tottenham need another body in the final third. Injuries of late to both Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski have shown Spurs are limited when both are out. Lucas Moura is expected to leave the club in the summer. Bryan Gil is a rookie.
Spurs need another player that can contribute to their attack. One with some creativity. Edwards has shown he is more than capable of that at Sporting. He has Spurs connections and aids their registration rules. An absolute no-brainer.
