Italian journalist Ciro Venerato says Tottenham Hotspur could miss out on the signing of Alex Meret, if Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici depart the club in the summer.
The £22.9 million goalkeeper was reportedly being lined up as the long-term successor to Hugo Lloris, who has endured a poor season at Spurs. Pundits such as Jamie Carragher have also urged the club to let go of their legendary, yet out-of-sorts captain in the summer.
Now, it seems Alex Meret, who could have perhaps replaced the World Cup winner may have second thought about joining Tottenham if Antonio Conte refuses to sign a new contract and if Fabio Paratici, who was banned for his alleged involvement in Juventus’ financial breaches has to leave the club.
Alex Meret could snub Tottenham move if Antonio Conte & Fabio Paratici depart
This is not ideal news for the London-based side, as bringing in a new No.1 should be one of their biggest transfer priorities in the summer and the Italian shotstopper is one of the very best in Europe this season.
However, journalist Ciro Venerato spoke about the potential switch involving Alex Meret on 1 Station Radio, as relayed by Forza Azzurri, “Tottenham were interested [in Alex Meret], but in the light of the evolution regarding the permanence of Conte and Paratici, I cannot say how much the Londoners can sink the blow.

“Any market story should be taken with a grain of salt. I suppose, in fact, that any English sirens would certainly not be ruled out by the boy and his entourage. This is why the club followed [Gianluca] Vicario with interest. I don’t exclude, however, that the parties may find an agreement for the continuation of the relationship.”
Tottenham fans will remain hopeful that Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici manage to stay put at the club, and the ‘special’ Alex Meret, as per Carlo Ancelotti plays his football in the English capital.
