In 2020, Chelsea Under-23 manager Adi Viveash said that former Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte was impressed by Mason Mount while watching him in an Under-23 game.

On Thursday, it was reported that Spurs are interested in the Cobham graduate, whose contract expires in 2024.

This comes as a telling revelation behind Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Mason Mount, as it seems Antonio Conte has always been a fan of his.

Conte has always rated Tottenham-linked midfielder Mount

It has been widely reported that there are two key reasons behind why Mount is against signing a new deal at Chelsea.

One, due to desiring higher wages and two, as he does not want to sign a long-term deal up to 8 years, for instance.

As Tottenham have potentially assessed the possibility of signing Mason Mount, it has been claimed that Antonio Conte has always been a huge admirer of his.

Speaking to BBC Sport in 2020, Chelsea Under-23 boss Adi Viveash addressed how impressed Conte was by Tottenham target Mount, saying, “You could see the first-team players trusted him because he’s so good on the ball.”

“The first thing you notice is that they’re not afraid to give it him all the time.”

“I know Antonio was very impressed with him after that game. That was probably a moment the recognition got gained. They started to ask for him if they needed a midfield player. It made an impression on them.”

In our view: Mount would be a superb signing for Spurs

Much like Rodrigo Bentancur, the Englishman provides a sense of balance to any team’s midfield.

Mason Mount is as creative as he is industrious, and this blend of silk and steel is perhaps why ex-Tottenham boss Antonio Conte instantly saw a player in him.

Whether Mount leaves Chelsea for their biggest rivals seems like an unlikely prospect, at least.
