Tottenham Hotspur are showing a surprise interest in Mason Mount as the playmaker seemingly prepares to leave Chelsea this summer.

Tottenham interested in Mason Mount

This comes from The Athletic, who claim that Mount is attracting major interest as his contract runs down.

Mount is now into the final 18 months of his Chelsea contract and talks over a new deal have seemingly been shelved.

That situation is attracting Premier League interest with Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City all keen.

The shocker comes with Tottenham as it’s suggested that Spurs have been monitoring Mount’s situation since last summer.

Chelsea don’t want to see Mount leave for nothing in 2024 so he will be available to buy this summer.

The problem for Tottenham is that Chelsea want around £70million for Mount despite him heading towards the end of his contract.

It’s hard to see Tottenham paying that kind of money for Mount or any player inside the final year of their deal.

Liverpool seems to be the most likely destination but Spurs are a team to keep an eye on.

Mount is what Tottenham need, but he surely won’t join

Tottenham’s biggest need is a new manager but when it comes to new signings, a creative midfielder has to be a priority.

Tottenham just don’t have any player with real guile in midfield and nobody who really links together midfield to attack – unless Harry Kane is dropping deep.

Spurs have really missed that kind of player in some games this season and seem to lack a Christian Eriksen-type player.

Hailed as ‘exceptional’ by England boss Gareth Southgate, Mount has the creative ability on the ball to completely change Tottenham whilst his work rate off the ball is hugely impressive too.

Tottenham can’t exactly commit to chasing Mount seriously right now.

Spurs have no manager and even their director of football can’t actually play a role in targeting a new signing.

That means Tottenham are probably lagging behind in the Mount chase already, and given his connection to the Blues, his expected wages and his transfer fee, we can’t imagine Mount in a Spurs shirt next season.
