Chelsea are now reportedly in talks to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro, a player who Tottenham have been heavily linked with in recent weeks.
According to journalist Simon Phillips via GiveMeSport, the Blues are in discussions with the right-back’s representatives as Graham Potter’s side look to sign more defensive cover this month with Reece James out through injury.
A Bola had reported over the weekend that Chelsea had joined the race to sign Porro. And now, the west London side are making steps in the right direction to landing the £40m-rated fullback this January, much to the dismay of Premier League rivals Tottenham.
Fabrizio Romano reported that Porro was Spurs’ main transfer target this month, and Chelsea making a move for the defender and now speaking to the defender’s agent will be nothing short of a hammer blow for the north London side this January.

Indeed, right-back is a position Antoni Conte is eager to improve on in this transfer window. And Porro, who Total Football Analysis label as ‘electrifying’, would be a sensational addition to the Italian manager’s ranks, with the youngster impressing against Tottenham in the UEFA Champions League this season.
However, Tottenham now face a massive mountain to climb in actually securing Porro’s signature with Chelsea now in talks with the player’s agent. And as we have seen from the Blues already this January, Todd Boehly is willing to throw as much money as possible at someone.
Chelsea now seem certain to beat Tottenham to Porro signing

Chelsea have been something of a nuisance this month to Premier League clubs despite January being just over a week old, with the Blues financially pushing their way to the front of many queues for multiple transfer races as FFP sits there in the corner twiddling its thumbs. And as a result, Tottenham now look set to lose the race for Porro.
After all, the west London side have the financial power to trump Tottenham in any transfer race they deem worthy, and given Porro’s potential and current ability, the Catalan-born right-back would be a smart signing for Potter this month given his defensive woes.
