Chelsea are now reportedly interested in signing Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro, a player who is believed to be Tottenham’s number-one target for the January transfer window.
According to the front page of Sunday’s print edition of A Bola (07/01), the Blues have now entered the race to sign the 23-year-old fullback, with Chelsea also targeting a new right-back this January as Antonio Conte looks to also strengthen in the position, with Porro reportedly Tottenham’s main target.
Fabrizio Romano recently reported on Twitter that the former Manchester City talent is at the ‘top’ of Tottenham’s transfer list this month, and interest from Chelsea could now complicate matters for Spurs, with the west London side already spending big this month.
As per Transfermarkt, the Blues have already spent over £50m on the likes of Benoit Badiashile and David Datro Fofana, and Todd Boehly is showing no sign of slowing down with Chelsea in a dreadful run of form and in desperate need of even more reinforcements.

And cover for Reece James would make sense for Chelsea, with the England international struggling with an injury-hit season that has restricted the defender to just 12 appearances in all competitions, which would explain the new interest in signing Porro.
With a release clause of £40m, as well, Porro is an accessible target for Chelsea even with Tottenham lurking in the shadows to strike for the Spanish fullback. And a transfer battle could soon erupt between the two London giants over the 23-year-old in the days to come.
Tottenham could beat Chelsea to Porro signing

To say Chelsea are in a bad spell would be something of an understatement, with the Blues already out of the FA Cup after a dismal 4-0 loss to Manchester City and slumping in midtable in the Premier League. And as a result, Tottenham could now have a great chance to win the race to sign Porro.
After all, the defender is a player who could thrive in a system like Conte’s. And with Tottenham making the right-back their main target for the window, the north London side have to ensure they make an offer to match the youngster’s release clause sooner rather than later.
