Napoli have reportedly tabled an offer to sign Bologna midfielder and rumoured Tottenham target Mattias Svanberg, who could be on the move this summer after a sensational season in Serie A.

According to Football Italia, the Italian giants have made an initial €8m (£6.8m) offer to sign Svanberg, with Bologna once valuing the midfielder at around €20m (£17m), with the 23-year-old’s value taking a hit in recent weeks due to his rapidly decreasing contract length, which expires next year.

As a result, Bologna could now lose their star midfielder for cheap, with Napoli now making an opening offer to sign Svanberg, who has been linked with both Tottenham and Southampton this summer, with Spurs, in particular, being strongly reported with a move for the Serie A star.

A Swedish international, Svanberg is a teammate of Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski, who are both viewed as two of the brightest prospects for the Scandinavian nation, yet following this update, a reunion at club level now feels unlikely for the Spurs winger.

Tottenham have been busy this summer with Antonio Conte making five new signings, including Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma, a move that could be the reason why Svanberg is no longer heading to north London as Napoli edge closer to the Bologna star.

Indeed, Spurs’ European rivals seem to have the transfer in the bag, with Svanberg likely to sign for Napoli in the coming days if they can agree personal terms with the 23-year-old ahead of other clubs who are chasing the Swede, with Tottenham and Southampton running out of time.

Following the revelation of Kulusevski at Tottenham, signing another Swede from Serie A in Svanberg could have been a smart move from Conte, especially given how close the two players are on the international stage, alas, Napoli now look set to seal the deal, and at a bargain price too.

At just under £7m, the Italian giants are signing a player who can operate in any midfield role and who could be crucial in Napoli’s quest for success next season, with Tottenham seemingly missing out on the chance to land the talented Bologna star despite the golden opportunity that was once present.
