Reported Tottenham target Mauro Icardi could be on his way to FC Barcelona, with the striker potentially being used as leverage by PSG to sign French international Ousmane Dembele.
According to BBC Sport, there is a possibility that the Ligue 1 side’s pursuit for Dembele could result in a swap deal involving Icardi. Barcelona are desperate to sell the attacker as well as bring in a centre-forward.
As reported by the Athletic, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is close to joining Barca on loan. However, should a deal collapse in the final hour, Icardi could be brought in with Dembele, who Barcelona signed for £130m in 2017, heading the other way.
L’Equipe reported earlier in the window that Spurs were interested in the Argentine striker. However, it appears that Tottenham’s main targets today are Juventus duo Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.
A striker is also needed in north London, with Harry Kane currently experiencing his worst season to date with Spurs and Antonio Conte having no other senior options to the England international.
Indeed, Icardi could have been a solid attacking partner for Kane as well as a real backup to the striker. However, it looks like Spurs will miss out on the Argentine due to other deals as well as Barcelona’s new interest in the forward.
Icardi could make genius career move heading to Barcelona

With Barcelona eager to offload Dembele and sign a striker, a swap deal with PSG for Icardi could be a win-win situation for the La Liga giants, as well as a brilliant career move for the reported Tottenham target.
After all, Icardi is a quality striker who is too good to be stuck on the bench in Paris, yet with Barcelona, there’s no denying that the attacker would be a regular under Xavi Hernandez, who could give the forward new life if a swap deal is made in the coming hours.
