Chris Sutton feels Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a ‘real stinker’ after coach Ange Postecoglou admitted the injury that Cristian Romero has sustained frightens Spurs.
The 25-year-old picked up his hamstring injury as Tottenham claimed a 2-1 win over Everton before Christmas. It initially kept Romero from featuring as Spurs fell to a 4-2 defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion. But further scans showed the strain will keep him out for far longer.
Romero is facing at least one month in the treatment room at Hotspur Way. But Postecoglou has admitted that his absence could extend to five weeks to worsen Tottenham’s injury crisis in defence. Micky van de Ven and Ryan Sessegnon are also absent due to hamstring injuries.

How many games will Tottenham’s Cristian Romero miss through injury?
A five-week absence through injury will keep Romero out of Tottenham’s next three fixtures in all competitions. Spurs will play two Premier League games, including against Manchester United, along with the FA Cup third-round tie with Burnley before they have a winter break.
The timing of Spurs’ winter break negates the difference of a four or a five-week absence for Romero. He should return when Postecoglou’s team hosts Brentford on January 31. Romero might also return a few days earlier should Tottenham reach the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Chris Sutton feels Cristian Romero’s absence is a ‘real stinker’

Postecoglou had already been without Romero during three of Tottenham’s Premier League fixtures this term before his injury. The 28-cap Argentine missed their defeats to Wolves and Aston Villa plus a 3-3 draw with Manchester City whilst serving a suspension for a red card.
Referee Michael Oliver sent Romero off against Chelsea in November for fouling compatriot Enzo Fernandez. Tottenham even continued their run of failing to win without Romero away to Brighton. So, Sutton feels his hamstring injury is a ‘real stinker’ for Spurs and Postecoglou.
Sutton has told BBC Sport: “Spurs’ defeat against Brighton was a sore one for manager Ange Postecoglou, who is without injured defender Cristian Romero for up to five weeks. He is such a key player, so that is a real stinker for them.”
