Tottenham have failed to replace the creativity of Christian Eriksen ever since he left North London to join Antonio Conte at Inter Milan – but now, they can finally replace Eriksen by winning the race and signing Alexis MacAllister.

Eriksen left Inter and ever since, creativity has been conjured up the brilliance of Harry Kane. The signing of Dejan Kulusevski in January has helped loosened the slack on Kane – who has been allowed to focus more on scoring.

But Spurs need to give Kane the freedom to attack the ball in the box more often, rather than trying to create things. It is not fair on Kane to be tasked with creating as many chances as he scores, even with Kulusevski in the side.

Spurs need a no.10. One that create magic, something out of nothing, and give Spurs that edge from set-pieces in the final third. Step forward, Brighton’s MacAllister. L’Interesta say Spurs, Juventus, Inter and Atletico Madrid are keen.

Tottenham can finally replace Eriksen by signing MacAllister

MacAllister has that bit of Eriksen about him. That guile, vision, creation and flair that Spurs so desperately need. He has shown it in Qatar – starring for Argentina as they embark on a World Cup semi-final against Croatia on Tuesday.

Not only is he doing it with the likes of Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul and Lautaro Martinez around him. But he is doing it on the south coast of England, too. For Brighton. This season, he has five goals in 14 Premier League matches.

He is adding a bit of magic to a Brighton side that are turning up. Brighton sit in a lofty seventh place, and you would be foolish to bet against Robert De Zerbi’s side from a shock finish in the European places. MacAllister is crucial to that.

Can Spurs prise him away from Brighton? Of course they can. But it is the competition from other clubs that Spurs need to be wary about. However, if they do get him, they finally bring back that Eriksen-style creation that is lacking.
