Tottenham have reportedly joined the race to sign Brighton & Hove Albion playmaker Alexis MacAllister – a player that Gary Lineker said is “sumptuous” from set-pieces after scoring a brace against his beloved Leicester City in September.
MacAllister, 23, is enjoying a wonderful season. Starring for Brighton in the Premier League with five goals in 14 games from midfield, he has earned a starting role at the World Cup for Argentina. They have reached the semi-finals.
Indeed, 12-time Argentina star MacAllister was an unused sub in the defeat to Saudi Arabia. But he has since started Argentina’s next four games – against Mexico, Poland, Australia and completing 120 minutes against The Netherlands.
Italian outlet L’Interista claim that Tottenham, Atletico Madrid and Juventus have joined Inter Milan in the race to sign MacAllister. A player that earned praise from Lineker in September, curling in a free-kick during the 5-2 Brighton win.
Lineker said MacAllister sumptuous from set-pieces, Tottenham join race
A bargain for Brighton at just £7million, the Seagulls will know they will have to sell their player eventually. But, they will be licking their lips at the profit they are set to make on him. Another example of their superb scouting network.
Can Spurs tempt him to move to London – over the likes of Juve, Inter or Atleti? The fact Spurs are in the Champions League will be a feather in their cap. Cristian Romero might be able to help talks, if it gets to that stage in a move.
But the same could be said for Rodrigo De Paul and Atletico Madrid. Lautaro Martinez, and Inter Milan. But what is true, is that MacAllister is shining as one of Argentina’s best in Qatar – alongside those that are playing for these clubs.
He has the aggression, the guile, the technical abilities and the flair that a club like the four interested need. Spurs are desperate to bring in an attacking midfielder and MacAllister fits the bill. As long as the price is not astronomical.
