Tottenham should sign forgotten star who thrived under Jose Mourinho rather than Ivan Toney

Harry Kane hasn’t been replaced at Tottenham Hotspur and never probably will.

The England captain will go down as the club’s greatest-ever player of the modern era and one of the greatest strikers the Premier League has ever seen.

But, at the very least, the marmite-like figure Daniel Levy needs to attempt to replace the Bayern Munich man at Tottenham.

Spurs are still relying too much on Son Heung-min and their high volume of goals this season were down to Ange Postecoglou’s all-action and attacking system.

Imagine what Spurs could produce in the final third, if they could keep Son on the left and have an out-and-out striker down the middle.

They would cause utter havoc and they would increase their chances of returning to the Champions League next season, with talk of transfer interest in Ivan Toney.

Tammy Abraham is the man for Tottenham Hotspur, not Ivan Toney

The Englishman seems to be a bit of a forgotten man, as he returned from a long-term injury this season for AS Roma.

That restricted the former Chelsea man to only eight Serie A matches, but he is still highly regarded in Rome for his debut campaign.

Under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho, he helped the team win the Conference League by scoring a record-breaking 27 in all competitions.

That talent and ability is there. As well as 11 caps for England where he has three goals.

Of course, Abraham is miles away from England’s squad now as they prepare for Euro 2024, but returning to the Premier League would help him get back on track.

Tammy Abraham under Ange Postecoglou

Spurs play a very attacking brand of football. They create a lot of chances and take some serious risks.

They don’t need a Kane-esque striker, in regards to a number nine having the ability to drop back and play as a ten.

Postecoglou instructs his fullbacks to play so high up that the striker can roam around the penalty box and wait for chance after chance to be delivered to him.

That’s Abraham’s game down to a tee, so Spurs shouldn’t hesitate in trying to bring him in because he would be a brilliant player for them.
