Sky journalist Lyall Thomas has reported that Tottenham Hotspur are unwilling to pay £13 million to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi, despite him eyeing a Premier League switch in January.

A recent revelation by Fabrizio Romano suggested that Malinovskyi would ‘love’ to join Tottenham in the January transfer window.

Corriere della Sara had even stated off-late that Antonio Conte and Co. had made an offer to bring in the Atalanta midfielder on loan with an option to buy.

Despite West Ham also putting in a bid to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi (as per Calciomercato), it seemed Tottenham Hotspur were single-minded in their objective to sign him.

At this point, it goes without saying that Tottenham are in desperate need for new recruits in midfield.

Especially in terms of adding a creator to their side, with Rodrigo Bentancur also currently sidelined due to injury.

Malinovskyi fits that exact profile, which is why it always made sense why Spurs were keen on his arrival.

But a fresh update contradicts this very idea.

Tottenham are now unwilling to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi in January for one reason

Sky journalist Lyall Thomas has explained why Tottenham are ‘reluctant’ to pay £13 million to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi in January.

“Ruslan Malinovskyi; wants to move to the Premier League this month. Showing strongest interest now is French club Marseille though.”

“Atalanta want £13 million (€15 million). Spurs reluctant to pay fees for players turning 30 and above. He’s still contracted to 2025”, he said on Twitter.

In our view: Spurs should stick to this transfer policy focused on the age factor

While Tottenham Hotspur could do with a creative midfielder like Ruslan Malinovskyi in January, it is fair if they wish to pull out of the deal due to the age factor.

Malinovskyi turns 30 in May and in the past, Tottenham have been affected by their short-term strategy while recruiting new players.

Spurs, much like any top club should focus on signing players in their early to mid-20s, who have the potential to take the club forward for the next decade.
