- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Tottenham Hotspur are now preparing to step up contract talks with club captain Son Heung-min.
HITC Football understands that Spurs are ready to progress discussions with the £22m forward after another strong campaign for the South Korean international.
The 31-year-old’s contract expires at the end of 2025, but HITC understands that talks have been ongoing about a new deal since last summer.
Tottenham have seen a blossoming relationship between Son Heung-min and manager Ange Postecoglou and HITC Football has been told that Son is loving life under the Australian and this is a key factor in him wanting to extend his stay.
Keeping the forward at the club has now become one of the key targets for Tottenham to complete this summer.
Tottenham ready to progress contract talks with Son
The ‘unbelievable’ attacker has been a key player for Tottenham ever since he signed for the club in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen.
He’s closing in on 300 Premier League appearances for the club and should reach that figure before the end of the season.
Son had a record-breaking partnership with Harry Kane for years, with the pair providing 47 goals for each other in the league.
However, while England’s all-time top goalscorer might have moved on, Son hasn’t slowed down.
He’s recorded the same number of league assists already this season and topped his goal tally with 11 matches left to play.

It’s no surprise that Tottenham want to progress contract talks with Son given his importance to the side.
Alongside James Maddison and Cristian Romero, he’s a key figure in Ange Postecoglou’s leadership group.
Tottenham still chasing Champions League football
HITC Football understands that Tottenham aren’t surprised that Son is one of a number of Premier League players being targeted by the Saudi Pro League.
However, Son’s relationship with Postecoglou means that he’s excited to sign a new contract at Tottenham and extend his stay with the team.
Spurs have a five-point gap to make up to Aston Villa but do have a game in hand over Unai Emery’s side.
They play the Villains on Sunday in a game that could have huge implications for their campaign.
While Postecoglou is still missing a few players, the squad may have finally got over the worst of their injury woes.
Currently sidelined defender Pedro Porro was quick to hail one of his teammates following their 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.
However, it’s the attacking pair of James Maddison and Son Heung-min that are likely to have the biggest impact on whether they return to the top four of the Premier League.
