Tottenham are now keen to sign Ben Foster after Hugo Lloris was ruled out for at least eight weeks with a knee injury.

What’s the story?

Well, the France international suffered knee ligament damage in the 1-0 win over Manchester City, and while he will likely avoid an operation, he will miss a crucial period of the campaign as Spurs take on AC Milan in the Champions League next week.

Lloris will also miss the FA Cup fifth round clash against Sheffield United, with Tottenham now ready to turn to Foster as an emergency option to provide backup for Fraser Forster – according to the Mirror.

However, it is said that Spurs will need special dispensation from the Premier League if they are to add the 39-year-old to their 25-man squad.

Foster – who has amassed 390 Premier League appearances across spells at Manchester United, Birmingham, West Brom and Watford – has been a free agent since leaving Watford back in the summer.

Last season, the experienced glovesman racked up 26 Premier League appearances as Watford were relegated to the Championship, keeping four clean sheets while conceding 49 goals.

Tottenham could justify Ben Foster decision

Interestingly, the Mirror believe Foster decided to reject an offer from Newcastle, with the Magpies eventually turning to Loris Karius as a backup option instead.

That seemed an odd decision from Foster at the time, but if Spurs now give him the chance to be part of a Champions League knockout campaign and work alongside the likes of Harry Kane, it would justify his rejection of Newcastle.

Of course, the Magpies could win the Carabao Cup at the end of the month, which could make the shot-stopper feel a tinge of regret about turning them down.

Nevertheless, Foster would feel a lot better if he was given the chance to join Tottenham, where he would work with some of the best facilities in Europe – be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Spurs could soon make him an offer.
