Salernitana are now in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a deal to sign Pape Matar Sarr in January. Director Morgan De Sanctis is determined to see the Senegal star move to Serie A.
That is according to Calciomercato, which reports the Granata chief has initiated talks with Spurs in recent days. De Sanctis is hopeful of adding further international profiles to coach Davide Nicola’s Stadio Arechi ranks after convincing Guillermo Ochoa to replace Luigi Sepe.

De Sanctis is relentless in his desire to see Sarr now follow Ochoa to Campania having seen the 20-year-old impress in Qatar. The 12-cap international played twice at the 2022 World Cup as Senegal made the Round of 16. He played for 45 minutes in their defeat to England.

But Salernitana face a complicated pursuit of Sarr despite opening talks with Tottenham in recent days. Several teams from around Europe are also tracking the midfielder’s situation, most credibly Sevilla. The La Liga outfit heads the rival clubs De Sanctis hopes to edge out.
De Sanctis further hopes the rival interest in Sarr does not let Tottenham force Salernitana into a bidding war. He fears an auction for the Thiaroye native shooting up their valuation, despite Antonio Conte’s lack of faith. The midfielder is still yet to make his debut for Spurs.

Tottenham signed Sarr from FC Metz in August 2021 for £14.5m but agreed for him to stay at the French side on loan for the season. Yet since arriving in north London this summer, Conte has only included Sarr as an unused substitute in 12 of a potential 23 squads so far.
The Evening Standard also reports Conte believes Tottenham can sign an upgrade on Sarr in 2023. While Mucho Deporte reports Spurs would even take a loss to offload the Senegal star within two years. It claims a valuation of only €15m (£13m) amid interest from Sevilla.
Tottenham are not under pressure to take a loss on Sarr’s transfer, either, as Salernitana chief De Sanctis rivals Sevilla. He is under contract in north London through to the summer of 2026. Sarr penned a long-term £20k-a-week deal at the time of his transfer from Metz.
