Fabrizio Romano has told Chris Cowlin’s Youtube channel Tottenham Hotspur won’t be appointing Erik ten Hag.
Many sources have reported that Tottenham are still keen on Ten Hag, as they search for Jose Mourinho’s replacement.
But Romano suggests that the Spurs hierarchy actually aren’t convinced over the Dutch manager.
“About Ten Hag. The meeting was true, but it was Tottenham’s position to say they were not 100 per cent convinced by him,” he began. “That’s why I see it’s not so easy to appoint him right now. Also because the new contract is a problem.”
“We can cross Ten Hag off our list, can we?,” he was then asked.
“Yes, I think the situation with Ten Hag is like this.
“As a profile I think he would be perfect, he is young, he has good ideas. But let’s see what he will decide because he has a strong relationship with director of Ajax Marc Overmars, and that’s why I think it’s like this.”
So, what now?
Romano’s update certainly makes interesting reading and throws into doubt who Tottenham will go for if they miss out on Mauricio Pochettino.

It does seem that Pochettino has very much become their first choice, but Ten Hag was widely viewed as the back-up option.
But with Ten Hag apparently not set to come to Spurs, it may be Antonio Conte who has just become the favourite.
Whatever happens, Spurs surely cannot risk letting their search go on for too much longer.
Tottenham have now taken around a month and a half to find Mourinho’s successor and if they wait for much longer they risk falling behind their rivals in terms of planning for next season.
