Mundo Deportivo claim Napoli have begun the search to replace Kalidou Koulibaly this summer – which will come as a boost to Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa in their pursuit of the Senegal international.

Koulibaly, 30, is about to enter the final year of his contract with the Azzurri. Recent reports suggested that Napoli had tabled a £75k-a-week offer to extend his contract, and that talks between agent and club were scheduled.

However, it seems Napoli are planning for life without Koulibaly. That will be a boost for Newcastle, Tottenham and Villa, who have all been recently linked. Another report said Newcastle are keen, while Villa had a bid rejected.

Spanish outlet SPORT say Tottenham are also looking at Koulibaly this summer – with £30million needed to land his signature. Now, MD say Napoli are so unconfident of a new deal they are looking for replacements.

Villa are unlikely to continue their pursuit after getting a deal over the line for Diego Carlos, but if Tyrone Mings opts to leave – then who knows. Tottenham and Newcastle are expected to remain in the market.

Indeed, Newcastle are likely to have only three centre-backs going into the season in Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar and Dan Burn. Fede Fernandez and Ciaran Clark are more than likely to leave the club.

Spurs have Cristian Romero and Eric Dier – but Koulibaly would be excellent competition for the England man in the middle of the back three. Joe Rodon could leave, making room for Koulibaly.
