Tottenham Hotspur star Mousa Dembele is reportedly set to attract interest during the January transfer window.

According to a report from The Sun at the weekend, Tottenham may need to brace themselves for a bid for Mousa Dembele during the January transfer window with Beijing Guoan looking to bring the midfielder to the Chinese Super League.

The terms reportedly set to be put on the table may well make an offer difficult to snub for Spurs and Dembele himself. The Sun reports that Beijing could offer between £8 million and £10 million as a transfer fee, while they are prepared to hand the Belgian a contract worth £192,000-a-week.

With Dembele out of contract in the summer, it would probably not be a huge shock if Daniel Levy decided to accept that proposal if it does indeed arrive from China.

But given how important Dembele has been to Mauricio Pochettino’s side over the last few years, surely Tottenham would be making a big mistake if they decided to let the stalwart leave in January.

Dembele may have disappointed the supporters with his performance at Watford at the weekend, but he is obviously a class act. He proved that in the 3-0 victory away at Manchester United where he looked much more like the Dembele that has undoubtedly been one of the Premier League’s best midfielders in recent years.

And given that his display at Watford seemed to be made more difficult by the lack of support around him, there seems no reason why Dembele cannot put that particular performance behind him immediately and get back to proving a key figure.

If they do not sell in January, then of course, Dembele could walk away for nothing in the summer. But Spurs are at a level where keeping Dembele around for an additional few months could have a significantly greater impact on the team than the £10 million that they may receive if they cash in early.
