Tottenham Hotspur suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season, and Mousa Dembele’s performance was slated.

Tottenham missed a fantastic opportunity to keep their flawless start to the new Premier League season going as Mauricio Pochettino’s side were beaten 2-1 away at Watford ahead of the international break.
Spurs would have been buoyed by their superb performance at Old Trafford on Monday, and it appeared that they may be about to make it four wins out of four as Lucas Moura’s cross was put into Watford’s net by Abdoulaye Doucoure for the game’s opening goal early in the second-half.
But the home side would score twice to turn the game around and ensure that their own impeccable start continued. And the player that many Spurs fans are blaming for the defeat is Mousa Dembele.
The Belgian was fantastic on Monday, but gave away the free kick that led to the equaliser and then his poor marking allowed the Hornets to score the winning goal with 14 minutes remaining.

And his display prompted a number of supporters to criticise the 31-year-old on social media following the defeat. For many, the contrast in the two performances highlighted that Dembele is no longer able to play two games in the space of a week.
Some have suggested that they would like to see Harry Winks get a chance ahead of Dembele in the near future now that he is back fit, and some are clearly keen for Pochettino to look to replace the midfielder at the next opportunity after his struggles at Vicarage Road.

Here is best of the reaction to Dembele’s performance…
